On Saturday April 26th, 2008, CCSA supporters arrived in the early morning at De Anza Cove. Mission Bay to once again make good their promise to ‘walk’ for hunger at the CCSA 5th Annual Hunger Walk. Each year the event gains more exposure and has greater participation. The primary goal of this annual event is to raise funds for agency programs that have served the poor and homeless for 35 years. This is the agency’s only major fundraising event.
This year 220 walked the 4.2-mile bayside course. Most of the walkers were from member churches, with families and friends. There were 22 CCSA member churches represented. Many of our congregations had between 10-20 participants walking the course. Eleven pastors from CCSA affiliated churches participated (that’s a record). Outside support included St. Therese Catholic Church of San Diego and Soroptimist Int'l of Mission Bay. More of our walkers wore blue CCSA t-shirts this year, designed to show our spirit and let people know CCSA is serious about its efforts. As the crowd made its way from De Anza Cove and back again, it was like a ‘sea-of-blue’.
The total funds raised by our supporters at this year’s Hunger Walk was $22,294.06. All of us at CCSA are thrilled by the results! Once again CCSA owes the tremendous success of this year’s event to its faithful supporters. These are the people that believe the ministry of CCSA makes a difference in the communities of San Diego. These dedicated people put forth their commitment and pledged donations which led to the success of this year’s event and CCSA’s ability to raise vital funds for the agency’s programs.
